Border ActionPobal is an intermediary company established by the Irish Government in agreement with the European Commission to support local social and economic development in Ireland. In 1995 Pobal and Combat Poverty were awarded responsibility for the implementation of a substantial part of the EU Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation in the Border Region of Ireland (1995-1999). This Programme was established to provide practical assistance to the region after the autumn ceasefires of 1994. To implement the Programme efficiently and effectively, a joint implementing body, Border Action (formerly ADM/CPA), was established in 1996. Border Action’s main base is in Monaghan. This is complemented with outreach offices in Letterkenny, Dundalk and Sligo. Border Action's Programme Team has been supporting projects ranging from employment and business development through community led development and social inclusion to cross-border reconciliation. Border Action publishes a range of reports on its peace and reconciliation work and on economic and social development in the Border counties.
