Information for Students

Combat Poverty's main purpose is to increase awareness of poverty in Ireland and to find solutions to the problem of poverty and social exclusion. We're not a charity or voluntary organisation - we don't have members or volunteers and we don't get involved in campaigns or politics. What we do is research the issue of poverty and make recommendations to the Government on policies to reduce the numbers living in poverty, and on ways to increase opportunity and improve quality of life for people who are less well-off in our society.

If you're doing a project on poverty or a topic related to poverty, there's lots of information on our website to help you:

  • Facts about poverty is a good place to start - it gives you the facts and figures and explains what poverty is and how it affects people in Ireland today
  • Our publications site has lots of stuff you can download for free. Our factsheets & briefings are a good source of information on issues related to poverty such as homelessness, educational disadvantage and health inequality
  • If you want to know more about Combat Poverty and what we do, have a look at about us and our work where you'll find lots of information about the work we're involved in
  • Our website and publications use a lot of terms you might not be familiar with - the glossary should help you understand what they mean. If you need help with explaining jargon or with anything else on our site, email us at library@combatpoverty.ie.

Other sites...

  • Combat Poverty and other organisations have worked together on cspe.ie - a site for CSPE students which is full of ideas and activities to get you thinking about the issues you'll be discussing in the CSPE course
