One of the four functions of Combat Poverty set out in the Combat Poverty Agency Act 1986 is "the examination of the nature, causes and extent of poverty in the State and for that purpose the promotion, commission and interpretation of research". Our research programme seeks to achieve a better public understanding of poverty and to influence appropriate policy responses to poverty in the context of the National Anti-Poverty Strategy. Consultation on the development of a Periodic Monitoring Report on Poverty and Social ExclusionThe purpose of the Periodic Monitoring Report is to collate a portfolio of social indicators to provide a comprehensive overview of trends in poverty and social exclusion by combining EU common indicators of social protection and social inclusion with a new set of national-specific indicators.
